New Bed(and dresser) Reveal!

Last week I left you hanging on my new bed frame, with only a sneak peek. Today is the big reveal! Here's the before:

Orangey-Red Cherry Wood, not my style!

I paid $60 for this solid wood, four poster bed frame off craigslist. Can you believe it? I was so excited I never took a proper before picture! This is the only one I have, from the craigslist ad.
And here is the after!
I just love everything going on here, from the paint samples taped to the wall, to my ikea rugs rolled up in the corner.... classy.

I still desperately need new bed linens(look how sad those shams look!), but I am SUPER happy with how this turned out! Our mattress even seems more comfortable now! I used Rustoleum Painter's Touch 2x in glossy black, and then I sealed it with a few coats of Minwax Polycylic.

A little tip on the polycrylic, brushes marks seem to be more evident with the glossy black finish. Why that is, I don't know, but I had to make sure I used a very light touch with my foam brush, and very thin coats. If you are getting a lot of brush marks, you probably are over brushing. Try to go over each section only ONE time(very hard for me). If you miss a spot, just get it on the next coat.

I also managed to finish this dresser also!

Here's the After:

I was really set on changing the hardware, but older furniture sometimes uses weird sizes, and I couldn't find any to fit! I figured I would paint them black just to "get by", but I actually love them now! Funny how much spray paint can change something from being bearable to being awesome!

I have decorated the top yet, because I am impatient and set it up in my bedroom before the paint finishing curing.

Because everyone loves Before/After pics:

Still to do in the bedroom: paint, curtains, bed skirt, new linens, and rugs! Stay tuned!
