You can see where I sanded all the way down to the "wood" only to realize staining wasn't a good idea. At that point I knew I was going to paint it, so gave the rest a minimal amount of sanding, just to get the shine off. The table also had small holes in the back, I think maybe it had a mirror or a hutch top at one point in it's life? Anyway, I filled those holes in with wood filler and then when dry, sanded until smooth.
Then I whipped out my BFF, spray paint! Today's selection is Krylon "peekaboo blue".
After priming the entire table, I painted the underneath and legs with 2 thin coats of the Peekaboo Blue.
Sorry for the weird angles, my porch is small.
Then I whipped out this stuff:
This was my first time trying chalkboard paint, and it was very easy to use! My only problem was even though I used 3 coats of primer, it took about 5 thin coats to fully cover the tabletop. BUT I still have a ton left in the can, so overall it worked well.
To paint the table top without getting over spray on the bottom part, I took some blue painters tape,
And attached some publix flyers along the bottom.
Of course right after I did this, the wind started blowing and I couldn't get the papers to stay on to save my life. But it still worked out ok. Here is after the last coat of paint:
My gorg black top! |
And here she is all assembled and in her new home! I'm absolutely loving this table! The blue turned out the perfect light blue with a hint of gray, and the flat black chalkboard top is a beautiful contrast. Here is one more before/after:
That little wet spot is from me cleaning up a mistake :) The chalkboard cleanup is a breeze! |
I also took the time this weekend to start my gallery wall, just above this table. More to come on that later! Hope everyone had a great weekend!
