Cream Side Table Part 2: How to cover furniture with fabric

Psst.... Here is part 1 if  you missed it!

I am SO excited to share this with you guys! I absolutely LOVE how this table turned out! It definitely took a big chunk of time but was totally worth it. So, after painting my table and letting it dry for 2 days, I began to get my fabric ready to cover the leather panel on the top.

Here's what I did. First, I cut my fabric just an inch or so larger than the actual area I was trying to cover.

Then I took some of this awesome stuff here:

And used that to adhere the fabric to the table top. I started by applying a thin layer in two inch sections, starting at the end of the tabletop closing to me, and unrolling the fabric as I moved back.

I smoothed the fabric very carefully with each section, first with my hands, then with a plastic card like this:

I let it dry for about 30 mins. 15 mins would have sufficed, but the voice was on, and Adam Levine distracted me ;)

Anywho... After that dried I added another layer of modge podge on top. It's important to do this BEFORE you trim the fabric, because otherwise it will fray. Again I applied a very thin layer, with a cheap foam brush.

You can see it looks a bit hazy, but don't worry, it dries clear :)

Next was the hardest and most time consuming part of this project. It would have went faster if I had a razor blade, but I really wanted to finish this project so I used what I had on hand.

I took my fabric scissors, and very carefully used them to cut off the excess fabric.

Note my "Oil Rubbed Bronze" manicure!

There were a few spots where I got over zealous with the trimming.

But it's all good! I simply cut a small scrap to fit:

And glued it on. Voila! It never happened!

After I finished trimming I applied one more, thin layer of modge podge to seal, making sure to focus on the edges so that they are sealed good. I will still probably add some polycrylic to the top, so that just in case someone *coughdavidcough* forgets to use a coaster, my fabric with be protected!

And there you have it, my paisley topped end table! I am in love with this table even though it took me forever!

Thanks for reading guys! Leave me a comment and let me know what you think!
